A Cambodian commander has been prosecuted and held in custody for murder and illegal possession and use of military arms in the Mekong Delta province of An Giang, announced the Investigation Agency under the provincial Police Department.
Lay Buon Thy, deputy head of Tham Dung frontier police post in Kiri Vong district of Cambodian Ta Keo province, shot a Vietnamese man dead and another severely injured on July 17.
According to Thy's statement, he drove a pickup truck from his workplace in Kiri Vong to Tinh Bien district in An Giang to visit his wife.
Afterwards, he came to Huong Xua restaurant to drink with three market management officials of An Giang province and two Cambodian friends at a thatched hut in the restaurant.
At that time, Pham Van Quang and Le Van Duoc were drinking at the next table. Holding beer glasses on their hands, they came to Thy’s table to stand him a drink. Subsequently a quarrel broke out between the two sides.
Being dissuaded by other people in the restaurant, Thy went home. At 8:05 p.m. he returned the restaurant with a K59 gun to talk to Quang and Duoc and they continued wrangling with each other.
Suddenly, Thy drew his gun and fired at Quang and Duoc. As a result, Quang was severely injured and Duoc died on the spot.
Searching Thy’s house, police force seized three guns and hundreds of bullets.
