Four barges were caught at red –handed illegally sand mining in Can Gio River yesterday.

Border guards in Ho Chi Minh City’s Can Thanh discovered four barges to illegally mine sand. Captains of these barges couldn’t show permits to mine sand and explain the origin of sand in the ships.
When the border guards raided the ships, barges contained over 2,000 cubic meter of sand, said Vice Head of Can Thanh border guard Major Nguyen Tat Hung..
Border guards are under further investigation .
The uncontrolled extraction of sand, gravel, and boulders from rivers is destroying ecosystem of rivers.
