The Australia Consulate and KOTO (Know One Teach One), a local charity providing vocational hospitality skills training for disadvantaged youth, will organize the Aust-Viet Junior Chef Challenge in HCMC from 17-21 June for the first time as part of celebrations of the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Australia and Vietnam.
Vietnamese children aged 10-12 years old will have the chance to present a sample of their cooking for judges to taste, and will be encouraged to describe their passion for cooking for family and friends the top 14 Junior Chefs final round.
They will have the opportunity to participate in a cooking class with guest Vietnamese-Australian celebrity chef Nhut Huynh, and compete in teams and individually for the title of the first Aust-Viet Junior Chef.
Sydney-based chef Nhut Huynh will teach the Junior Chefs to use premium Australian beef and lamb to create delicious Vietnamese dishes such as Australian Beef Fillet Salad with Lemongrass (Bun Bo Xao), and Australian Lamb on Sugarcane (Trao Truu).
During the week Nhut will also conduct public cooking demonstrations and instructs trainee chefs at KOTO (Know One Teach One), a local charity providing vocational hospitality skills training for disadvantaged youth.
In addition to learning cooking skills from a professional chef, Junior Chefs will be encouraged to work together in teams and learn kitchen safety and hygiene.
