Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index slightly edged up on March 31 as low prices attracted investors despite concerns over rising inflation.
The gauge of 283 companies and five mutual funds listed on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange inched up 0.24 percent, or 1.09 points, to close at 461.13 points.
On the benchmark, 94 advanced, 114 declined, while 80 remained unchanged.
Trading volume on the city bourse slightly slid whereas trading value fell 19 percent over the previous trading session as 27.88 million shares changed hands at a value of VND542 billion.
Saigon Securities Inc. (SSI), the country’s largest brokerage, was the most active share in volume with 1.29 million shares changing hands.
It was tagged along by Sai Gon Thuong Tin Joint Stock Commercial Bank or Sacombank (STB) with 1.28 million shares.
Refrigeration Electrical Engineering Corporation (REE) came in next with 613,060 shares traded.
Vinacafé Bienhoa Joint Stock Company (VCF) led the list of gainers on the city bourse, adding up 4.98 percent to close at VND48,500.
Long Hau Corporation (LHG) grew 4.75 percent to close at VND39,700.
Binh Dinh Minerals Company (BMC) capped its four-day losing streak, gaining 4.73 percent to VND28,800.
Mien Trung Petroleum Construction Joint Stock Company (PXM) collapsed 10.34 percent to close at VND7,800.
Mekophar Chemical Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company (MKP) and Industrial Urban Development Joint Stock Company No.2 (D2D) both gave up 5 percent to close at VND45,600 and VND28,500 respectively.
Binh Duong Construction & Civil Engineering Joints Stock Company (BCE) crushed 4.85 percent to VND9,800.
The smaller in the north wrapped month in red as the Hanoi’s HNX-Index slipped 0.01 percent, or 0.01 points, to close at 91.47 points. Trading volume significantly dropped over the previous day as 24.5 million shares worth VND351.62 billion changed hands.
Meanwhile, the UPCoM-Index of unlisted shares contracted 0.03 points to 37.38 points this morning. A total of 254,960 shares changed hands at a value of VND7.83 billion, nearly six times higher than the trading value of the previous day.
