VN-Index climbs for five straight days

Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index rose the fifth consecutive trading session on January 18 as Bao Viet Holdings (BVH) and Masan Group (MSN) were traded at ceiling prices through the day.

The gauge of 279 companies and five mutual funds listed on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange inched up 0.46 percent, or 2.27 points, to finish at 497.43 points.

Of the index, 66 stocks gained, 153 fell, while 65 remained unchanged.

Trading volume on the city bourse slightly dropped over the previous trading session as around 40.8 million shares changed hands at a value of VND1.07 trillion this morning.

Na Ri Hamico Mineral Joint Stock Company (KSS), a mining company, topped the list of most active shares in volume with 2.23 million shares changing hands.

Saigon Securities Inc. (SSI), the country largest brokerage, tagged along with 1.61 million shares.

Newly listed steelmaker Nam Kim Steel (NKG) became the third most active with 1.24 million shares traded.

Information and Networking Technology Joint Stock Company (CMT) accelerated 5 percent to VND21,000.

Hoang Quan Consulting – Trading – Service Real Estate Corporation (HQC) advanced for five straight days, surging 4.99 percent to VND44,200.

Foreign Trade Development and Investment Corporation of Ho Chi Minh City (FDC) emerged 4.95 percent to VND29,700.

Sao Mai Construction Corporation (ASM) curbed its four-consecutive-trading-session winning streak, plummeting 66.13 percent to trade at VND23,200. The company will issue 19,825,200 additional shares to sell to its current shareholders at a price of VND10,000 per share, and a ratio of 1:2, and 9,912,600 bonus shares to reward its current shareholders. In addition, it will sell 494,800 shares to its employees at a price of VND10,000 per share.

Vinafco Joint Stock Corporation (VFC) plunged 4.98 percent to VND21,000.

Viet Thang Feed Joint Stock Company (VTF) declined 4.97 percent to VND15,300.

The smaller bourse in the north made a contrast move as the Hanoi’s HNX-Index eroded 1.43 percent, or 1.56 points, to close at 107.46 points. Trading volume dropped by 10 percent over the previous trading session as just around 29.1 million shares were traded at nearly VND556.9 billion.

The UPCoM-Index contracted 0.69 points to 44.18 points. A total of 370,000 shares changed hands at VND4.7 billion.
