VN collects $1.23 mln in music copyright royalties

The Vietnam Center for Protection of Music Copyright said January 23 it collected total royalties of over VND23.3 billion (US$1.23 million) from the use of musicals works of 1,600 local and foreign composers in 2009.

The Vietnam Center for Protection of Music Copyright said January 23 it collected total royalties of over VND23.3 billion (US$1.23 million) from the use of musicals works of 1,600 local and foreign composers in 2009.

Musician Pho Duc Phuong, the center’s director, said great progress was made last year in the protection of music copyrights.

Since becoming an official member of the International Union of Authors’ and Musicians’ Associations, the center has signed bilateral contracts with 36 international copyright organizations in 117 countries and territories, he said.

Mr. Phuong said the rights and interests of foreign authors and musicians will be protected in Vietnam according to the country’s laws and international conventions, and vice versa.
