Viet Nam's top badminton player Nguyen Tien Minh jumped from 47th to 38th within two weeks in the latest ranking released by the International Badminton Federation (IBF) on June 15.
Minh, who stood 47th in the June 1 ranking, has accumulated 13,530 points compared with 11,610 points in the early-month ranking in the men’s singles. He got the new points after being qualified for the round one sixteen in the Aviva Open Singapore tournament, taking place from June 5 to 11.
This position is the highest for Minh, a Ho Chi Minh City player, so far. He was the first Vietnamese player in the IBF top 100 two years ago, and won the men’s singles of the Robot Viet Nam Satellite tournament in April 2006 – the first ever title for a Vietnamese in the tourney.
Chinese player Lin Dan topped the IBF men’s singles table with 40,663 points, the same as his June 1 ranking. Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia ranked second with 37,473 points (compared with 37,233 points early this month). Denmark’s Peter Gade came third with 37,189 points (compared with 35,029 points).
In women’s singles, leading Vietnamese player Le Ngoc Nguyen Nhung jumped from 149th to 140th with 3,828 points.
