Vietnamese film joins 2017 ASEAN Film Festival

The Vietnamese film Toi Thay Hoa Vang Tren Co Xanh (I See Yellow Flowers on the Green Grass or Dear Brother) by Vietnamese American director Victor Vu took part in the 2017 ASEAN Film Festival held at the United Nations Office in Geneva, Switzerland from March 27-April 7.

About 10 movies ASEAN Member countries will be screened at the film fest, including Best of Times (Thailand), Only Love (Laos), Adam Eve Datsa (Myanmar), My Magic (Singapore), Redha (Malaysia), We are Moluccans (Indonesia), Yasmine (Brunei) and I See Yellow Flowers on the Green Grass (Vietam).

The ASEAN film industry recently has had movies that won attention at international film festivals, such as Cannes (France) and Busan (the Republic of Korea).

Filmmakers in the region received many famous movie awards, including Thai filmmaker Apichatpong Weerasethakul who got the prestigious 2010 Cannes Film Festival Palme d'Or prize for the film “Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives”;  Singaporean film director and film producer Athony Chen won the prestigious Camera d'Or at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival with his debut feature film "Ilo Ilo"; Filipino film director Brillante Mendoza received the award for Best Director for his film "Kinatay" at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival.
