Vietnamese badminton champion Nguyen Tien Minh October 7 defeated host rival Chou Tien Chen at the final of the Yonex Open 2012 in Taipei, China.

The world number 13 easily dominated the sets and closed at 21-11 and 21-17 as he stood at 30 places higher than the Taiwanese, though 22-year-old Tien Chen fought back in the second set.
Minh will receive a cash award of US$15,000, and obtain 2,000 points that will help him climb back to 11th place on the world tally in the next update provided by the world federation.
This is the second time Minh has won the prize, the first time being in 2009. Minh has won 14 international titles so far. With the Yonex Open 2012 held under the Grand Prix Gold of the World Badminton Federation, Minh has now achieved three Grand Prix championships.
Minh’s best previous rank was 6th place in April 2010.
