Vietnam to support Mozambique’s raw cashew industry

Within a recent working framework between the Vietnam Cashew Association (VINACAS) and the Mozambique National Cashew Institute (INCAJU) in Ho Chi Minh City, leaders of VINACAS said that the climate and weather condition in Africa in general and Mozambique in particular are suitable for planting cashew trees while Vietnam is the world's leading country in processing and exporting cashew nuts.

Therefore, the export of cashew nuts will earn much money for farmers in the two countries if they exploit the strengths, form value chains from cashew farmers, importers and processing businesses.

VINACAS is ready to advise and support INCAJU in improving the quality of raw cashew nuts, increasing recovery rate of cashew nuts by over 50 percent instead of about 48 percent as currently, as well as to share experiences in disease prevention and control of cashew plants.

Currently, the processing capacity of Vietnam raw cashew nuts reaches 2 million tons a year, mostly importing raw cashew materials from Cambodia and Indonesia, especially from African countries.

However, the amount of imported cashew from Mozambique is very modest, less than 100,000 tons a year due to unstable quality.
