More than 400 players from 26 nations and territories are competing in five categories of men’s and women’s singles, men’s and women’s doubles and mixed doubles, with total prize money of $75,000 available.
According to the organising board, the level of this year’s tournament will be upgraded from Grand Prix to World Tour Super 100, and the results updated on the Badminton World Federation (BWF)’s website.
On the first day of competition, Vietnamese women duo Vu Thi Trang and Nguyen Thi Sen stopped at the qualifying round when losing 1-2 to China’s Lu Chen and Ya Xu.
In the men’s singles, Vietnam’s Le Duc Phat was defeated by India’s Ajav Javaram with a result of 0-2.
In another match, top Vietnamese player Nguyen Tien Minh (world No.55) won 2-0 against Rahul Yadav Chittaboina of Indonesia.
The tournament will last until August 12.
The Yonex – Sunrise Vietnam Open is a prestigious tournament held annually in Vietnam. Its results are included in the BWF ranking system.
