Vietnam honored at international piano contest

The 13-year-old student triumphed over 29 competitors to take the first prize for her performance of Ballades No 1 and Etudes No.5. She had previously received a golden medal at the Asian music festival in the Republic of Korea in July.

PhD Ta Quang Dong led the Vietnamese delegation including seven contestants, Professor Tran Thu Ha and piano teachers of the Vietnam National Academy for Music.

The competition attracted 145 candidates from 15 countries, such as China, the Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam and the host nation, Singapore.

The contest commemorating the 200th anniversary of Chopin's birth was organized for the first time by the Chopin Society (Singapore) and the Nan yang Academy of Fine Arts. Contestants were required to perform Chopin's works for a fixed period, depending on their age.
