Tra fish prices have fallen by VND1,500-2,000 per kilogram since last month, the An Giang Fisheries Association said May 18.

A kilogram now fetches only VND24,000 or even VND23,000 in many places in the delta, barely profitable for farmers.
Recent changes in the US’s anti-dumping tax on tra fish fillet from the country is one of reasons for the price slump.
The US Department of Commerce rescinded the anti-dumping tax for Vietnam’s Vinh Hoan Company but increased the rate from US$0.42 to $1.2 per kilogram for other voluntary respondents.
Meanwhile, tra fish export to Europe, especially Russia and Ukraine, has not seen much change.
Following the fall in prices, farmers in the Mekong Delta are reluctant to continue breeding the fish.
