Torrential rainfall flooded several streets in Hanoi by late Thursday afternoon, with many spots inundated under one meter of water.
The heavy rain came down during peak hours causing chaos and bad traffic jams along several streets like Thai Ha, Thai Thinh, Ngoc Khanh, Nguyen Khuyen, Kham Thien, Nguyen Luong Bang, Ly Thuong Kiet, Pham Ngoc Thach and Ba Trieu.
Some spots were inundated under as much as one meter of water, causing scores of motorcycles to suffer engine failure while some cars just could not pass through. Floodwaters from some streets even flowed into people’s homes.
Workers from the Hanoi Sewage and Drainage Company were at hand to dredge the mud and garbage from the flowing floodwater at deep ends to allow it to flow unheeded, while pumping machines were kept running at full capacity.
Traffic along some of the above streets could resume only after 8pm, when the rain somewhat abated.
