1. National Futsal team enrolls in international playground
Under the leadership of Spanish coach Bruno Garcia, Vietnamese National Futsal team excellently won 2-1 against Japanese team during 45 minute match of quarter-finals to present the semifinal round at the 2016 Asian Futsal Championship in Uzbekistan for the men’s international teams of Asia.
The goal by Nguyen Minh Tri against Guatemala is chosen as the second best goal of the tournament.
The achievement showed that Vietnamese Futsal had been more and more developed as the Southeastern Asian country competed at the final of World Cup for the first time, the international futsal competition organized by the Federation International Football Association (FIFA).
At the 2016 Futsal World Cup Colombia, Vietnam National Futsal team defeated Guatemala with a score of 4- 2 and received the title of ‘Fair-Play’ at the final round.
The goal by Nguyen Minh Tri against Guatemala was chosen as the second best goal of the tournament.
2. The Vietnam's U19 football team qualified for the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup
U19 football team qualified for the FIFA U20 World Cup 2017 in South Korea for the first time.
The young players defeated U19 Myanmar, Timor-Leste and Hong Kong (China) to acquire a ticket in the semi-final of the Asian Football Confederation’s (AFC) U19 Championship in Bahrain.
Under the leadership of Coach Hoang Anh Tuan, Vietnam was ranked the second position in the final round along with strong teams as People's Republic of Korea (PRK), United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Iraq.
Only goal of Tran Thanh against the host country-Bahrain helped the Southeast Asian country to qualify for the FIFA U20 World Cup 2017 in South Korea for the first time.
3. Vietnam's U16 team wins the preliminary round of AFC Championship
The young players won at the preliminary round of the AFC U16 Championship for the first time to go through the quarterfinals.
In the qualifying round, the football team of trainer Dinh The Nam was defeated 2- 0 by Australian team. However, Vietnam expectedly won Kyrgyzstan over 3- 1 in the second match to earn a ticket for the quarter-final round.
Although the Vietnamese football team had to leave from the quarterfinal earlier than expectation, the result has been considered as the second successful in the competition since 2000.
4. Thai Son Nam Club grabs title of championship

Ho Chi Minh City football team spent an impressive successful competition year with three outstanding achievements.
Of these, it earned the title of championship and was considered as a successful for the national futsal team at the World Cup Finals 2016.
Thai Son Nam Club has just won four-team nations cup at the end of this year.
5. Over-capacity playground for U.23 Vietnamese football team
Amid to strong competitors as Jordan, Australia and United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the preliminary round of the AFC U23 Finals, Vietnam had to leave the regional tournament earlier than expected.
However, the result was considered as a valuable lesson for the young players as they are going to take park in the upcoming playground at the 29th SEA Games in Malaysia.
6. Vietnam women team wins silver medal at Southeast Asian Football Championship
Last year, Vietnamese women team spent two important competitions at qualifying round of Olympiad Games and the Southeast Asian Football Championships.
The female players excellently defeated teams from Thailand, Myanmar,Taiwan (China) and Jordan in the second qualifying round. However, they had to say goodbye to the competition after losing the People's Republic of Korea (PRK), Japan, Australia and China.
In the Southeast Asian Football Championships, the female players of Coach Mai Duc Chung were ranked the first position in the table A against Myanmar, and drew with the host country in the penalty. However, the Vietnamese team had to receive silver medal after losing Thailand in the 11-meter penalty shooting.
7. Missing the AFF Cup Finals
Vietnamese players sent belief and desire for the most award of the AFF Cup after they achieved at four-team tournament in Myanmar and a friendly competition with the People's Republic of Korea.
In the table round of AFF Cup, the Vietnamese team respectively won the host country-Myanmar, Malaysia and Cambodia to face Indonesia. However, they missed the golden cup after losing 3-4 after two competitions.
8. Ho Chi Minh City club earns ticket at V- League 2017

Ho Chi Minh City club deserved to grab a ticket at the 2017 V- League against Viettel, Nam Dinh and Dong Nai.
The students of coach Lu Dinh Tuan finished in advance three preliminary rounds with 12 matches.
9. Leaving out of domestic playgrounds
At the ending of 2016, several football teams as Dong Nai, PVF and Phu Yen confirmed to not join the first domestic tournament 2017.
10. Several football players not successfully compete at foreign clubs
Last year, the most remarkable sports event was absence of 2/3 players from Hoang Anh Gia Lai Club as they competed in the foreign countries as Tuan Anh, Luong Xuan Truong and Cong Phuong.
Tuan Anh and Cong Phuong were in the substitute name list of Mito Hollyhock and Yokohama FC at the second level domestic tournament of Japan.
Therefore, the owner of Hoang Anh Gia Lai club had to send Cong Phuong and Tuan Anh to compete at the V- League to prepare for the upcoming 29th SEA Games.
