On August 25, President Truong Tan Sang accompanied by many State leaders visited and congratulated General Vo Nguyen Giap on occasion of his 103rd birthday at the 108 Military Hospital in Hanoi.
General Vo Nguyen Giap was born on 25th August 1911 in Le Thuy District in Quang Binh Province. He was made the first general of the Vietnam People's Army on 20th January 1948. He was a journalist, politician and a prominent student of late President Ho Chi Minh.
General Vo Nguyen Giap commandeered two wars, including the War against the French colonialists (1946-1954) and the War against the U.S backed Saigon regime (1960-1975).
On this occasion, President Truong Tan Sang also affirmed that the Party, State, Army and the Vietnamese people always respected and remembered the contributions made by General Vo Nguyen Giap for the nation.
General Vo Nguyen Giap expressed his pleasure as well as gratitude to President Truong Tan Sang.
On the same day, Mr. Le Kha Phieu, former CPV Party General Secretary; Mr. Vu Duc Dam, Chairman of the Government Office also visited and congratulated General Vo Nguyen Giap at 108 Military Hospital.
Talking to reporters of SGGP, Mr. Le Van Hai, spokesperson of General Vo Nguyen Giap, said that in recent days, many Party and State leaders had visited, gifted flowers and congratulated the General.
Mr. Le Van Hai added this is the third year the office of General Vo Nguyen Giap had prepared thank you cards to send to people who visited and congratulated him. The cards were all personally signed by General Vo Nguyen Giap.
