Test results of Chinese-made bras revealed Polystyrene, an aromatic polymer material and mineral seal oil in the suspiciously embedded pills and liquid inside the bra cups which market management authorities had seized recently after customers complained of itchiness after wearing them.

Large quantities of Chinese-made bras are available in the local market and recently some customers had found strange pills and liquid packets embedded in the bra cups that seemingly caused itchiness. Market management departments took many of these bras from markets across the country for testing.

The Criminal Science Institute under the Ministry of Public Security conducted tests of the pills and the liquid packets and found them to contain polystyrene composites and mineral seal oil, both of which do not cause harm to human health.

Refined mineral seal oil is used in production of nylon bags for carrying food and for body massage and does not harm human skin.

The Directorate for Standards, Metrology and Quality (STAMEQ) under the Ministry of Science and Technology, and the Vietnam Chemistry Institute also came up with similar results as the Criminal Science Institute.

However, Dr. Vu Duc Loi from the Vietnam Chemistry Institute said in mineral seal oil there is a cancer-causing substance with polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon compound which causes itchiness.

Tran Hong Con from the Chemistry Department in the Nature Science University said mineral seal oil is of various hundred kinds; one kind is used for medical purposes or manufacture of cosmetics. Accordingly, related agencies should verify which kind of mineral seal oil is being used in the Chinese-made bras.
