The Vietnam Children Sponsor Fund in Hanoi yesterday organized a program to raise people’s awareness of protecting and taking care of primary students’ eyes
Following the program, a project to raise parents’ awareness of protecting and looking after their kids’ eye in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City will be implemented from now on to August, 2018. It is estimated to cost VND2.7 billion ($122,400) to carry out the project; of which Prudential will sponsor over VND2.2 billion and the remaining will be taken from the fund.
Studies carried out by eye hospitals in Hanoi and Ho Chi MInh showed that the rate of children wearing eyeglasses of power P = 2 diopter to correct nearsightedness accounts for 20 percent of cases, highest in the country.
Director of the fund Dr. Hoang Van Tien said that the program aims to raise knowledge and responsibility of parents, teachers, and kids to prevent the disease which is popular amongst Vietnamese kids contributing to improve children’s health to carry out the National Action Program for Children in the period 2011 - 2020.
The program will support treatment fee or send children with eye problems to infirmaries for free cure.
Is is scheduled that when the program wraps up, 30,000 children and their parents will improve their awareness through increasing information to residents, 88 teachers and medical workers are more aware of taking care of children’s eye.

The program is piloted in six primary schools in two big cities, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, which have a large quantity of children suffering eye diseases. The fund will assess the program to propose with the sponsor expanding the program to other cities and provinces.
