A hi-tech treatment ward in the Hospital for Senior People was inaugurated in Hanoi on February 9.
Health Minister Nguyen Thi Kim Tien said that only around 40 percent of hospitals in provinces nationwide have ward for treating diseases of senior persons while others senior people must stay in the medical ward.
Vietnam is one of ten nations facing a rapidly aging population and increased non-infectious diseases are burdens for the country’s future.
Accordingly, the Ministry of Health decided to build a satellite hospital of the Hospital of Senior People in the northern province of Ha Nam to meet the increasing treatment demand.
The ward costs VND120 billion (US$ 5.6 million) and was built in 2013. It was completed after 14 months of construction and currently it have 150 beds and can receive 500 patients everyday.
The newly construction is expected to put into operation in December and it is equiped 300 beds and can receive 1,000 patients.
The Health Minister asked the hospital to increase training more medical workers specializing in treating disease for senior people to provide for other medical centers in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam, Health Minister Nguyen Thi Kim Tien and former President of the VFF Central Committee Pham The Duyet attended the ceremony.
