Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index inched up the first time in five days on March 18 as several stocks rebounded due to rising bottom fishing demand at the end of the trading session.
The gauge of 282 companies and five mutual funds listed on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange restored 0.12 percent, or 0.55 points, to wrap week at 461.08 points.
Among the index members, 194 advanced, 49 declined, while 44 remained unchanged.
Trading volume on the city bourse improved by 50 percent over the previous trading session as 53.5 million shares changed hands at a value of VND1.3 trillion.
Vietnam Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Industrial and Trade or Vietinbank (CTG) remained the most active share in volume with 4.53 million shares changing hands.
Saigon Securities Inc. (SSI), the country’s largest brokerage, came next with 3.33 million shares.
Hoang Anh Gia Lai Joint Stock Company (HAG) ranked third with 2.46 million shares.
Materials - Petroleum Joint Stock Company (COM), Cavico Viet Nam Mining & Construction Joint Stock Company (MCV), and Bank for Foreign Trade of Vietnam or Vietcombank (VCB) were the biggest gainers on the city bourse today. They all jumped the daily maximum allowed limit of 5 percent to VND31,500, VND10,500, and VND31,500 respectively.
Vietnam Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Industrial and Trade or Vietinbank (CTG) extended its winning streak to eight consecutive days, growing 4.97 percent to VND31,700.
Binh Dinh Minerals Company (BMC) and Hanoi Maritime Holding Company (MHC) both shot up 4.92 percent to VND27,700, and VND6,400 respectively.
Cuu Long Petro Urban Development & Investment Corporation (CCL) dropped for ten straight days, losing 4.97 percent to close at VND17,200.
Cadovimex Seafood Import-Export & Processing Joint Stock Company (CAD) gave up 4.92 percent to VND5,800.
Khang Dien Investment & Trading House Joint Stock Company (KDH) edged down 4.9 percent to VND40,800.
The smaller in the north also finished week in green as the Hanoi’s HNX-Index rocketed 3.06 percent, or 2.83 points, to close at 95.21 points. Trading volume significantly improved over the previous trading session as 53.1 million shares worth VND828 billion changed hands.
