Representative of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to Vietnam yesterday granted the certificate recognizing Langbiang as the World’s Biosphere Reserve in Da Lat city on the occasion of opening the Flower Festival.
Earlier, Langbiang Biosphere Reserve was recognized as the world's biosphere in Vietnam at the 27th meeting of International Coordinating Council Program Man and Biosphere of UNESCO in France in June, 2015.
It is also the ninth World's Biosphere Reserve in Vietnam and the first World Biosphere Reserve in the Central Highlands.
Langbiang World Biosphere Reserve covers an area of 275, 000 hectares of primitive forest with its core zone as Nui Ba Bidoup National Park which is nest of rare birds and one of the four biodiversity centers in the country.
The natural reserve has persevered 1, 945 floras, including 96 endemic species, 153 species of animals and plants listed in the Vietnam Red Book, and 154 species listed in the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red Book such as Malayan bear, gayal, chamois, Red-browed cheeked black gibbon and others.
