US$97,000 and US$90,838 from the total will be used to buy medical equipment for Ham Long General Hospital in Ben Tre’s Chau Thanh District and Vinh Vien Inter-communal clinic in Hau Giang’s Long My District respectively.

The government of Japan decided to fund the clinics in the two provinces as they had a shortage of medical equipment, and haven’t been able to function as frontline medical units.

Both departments of health will purchase 16 kinds of basic medical equipment including for diagnosis, therapy and dentistry. The project aims to help the clinics provide efficient medical services and diagnosis for 160,000 local residents.

The third and fourth projects, costing US$96,871 and US$97,029 respectively, will build Phuoc Binh C Primary School in Bac Ai District in the central province of Ninh Thuan and Son My Second Primary School in Ham Tan District in Binh Thuan Province.

The Government of Japan will fund construction of six classrooms, with chairs, desks and blackboards to support the education of the school’s 506 pupils.

US$96,952 will be used to construct an irrigation system in Long Phung Commune, Can Giuoc District in Long An Province. By funding the system, Japan aims to counter the threat of saltwater penetration in the commune’s rice fields as two sluices in the 160 ha of rice fields are currently leaking saltwater.
