On the afternoon of April 2, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Hoang Nguyen Dinh received Mr. Linkham Duangsavanh, Minister of Agriculture and Environment of Laos.
At the meeting, Vice Chairman Hoang Nguyen Dinh emphasized the enduring friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive strategic cooperation between Vietnam and Laos, noting that these ties continue to strengthen.
Introducing the city’s new development landscape, the city leader explained that following recent mergers, Ho Chi Minh City has become a large-scale urban center. The city’s core functions as a hub for finance, services and innovation; the area of Binh Duong serves as a high-tech industrial growth pole; and the area of Ba Ria–Vung Tau plays a key role in the maritime economy, seaports and clean energy. This regional urban structure opens up significant opportunities for investment and development cooperation between the two sides.
The Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee highlighted that Ho Chi Minh City prioritizes relationships with Lao localities. Currently, the city has established cooperative ties with five Lao localities, including the capital, Vientiane, as well as Champasak, Savannakhet, Houaphanh and Xiengkhouang provinces. He expressed confidence that, based on existing potential, these partnerships will deepen and generate sustainable value for both sides.
Expressing gratitude for the warm reception, Minister of Agriculture and Environment of Laos Linkham Duangsavanh noted that his visit aims to implement the bilateral cooperation agreement between the Lao and Vietnamese governments for the 2026–2030 period. Through on-site surveys, the delegation hopes to learn from Vietnam’s dynamic economic development models for application in Laos.
Praising the presence of Vietnamese businesses in Laos, Mr. Linkham Duangsavanh highlighted successful projects that have promoted sustainable development in sectors such as clean agriculture, mining and services.
Regarding future cooperation, the Lao minister expressed a desire for Ho Chi Minh City and Lao localities to strengthen connectivity and deepen practical collaboration. He emphasized the importance of fully leveraging the strengths and potentials of both sides, particularly in agriculture and forestry sectors.
