For the first time, a survey of reading habit of youth in Ho Chi Minh City has been carried out by the Vietnam Publishing Association and the HCMC Book Street Company.
The two agencies announced survey result’s first phase on June 14.
Specifically, respondents of the two-month survey are primary children, junior and senior high schoolers, and university students.
The survey focused on young people’s reading belief and habit as well as impact of families, school in promoting reading habit amongst young persons with 1,600 collected questionnaires.
Deputy Director of the HCMC Book Street Company Quach Thu Nguyet emphasized that just half of primary children and junior high schoolers love reading.
Accordingly, she suggested families and teachers to encourage children to read more.
The goal of the survey is to collect scientifically precise information. Four factors comprising of belief, habit, behavior and reading knowledge promote reading, said Ms. Nguyet.
The survey analysis pointed out families, schools and community play significant role in promoting reading. Ms. Nguyet advised young people should be cultivated that reading will benefit themselves and the country.
She concluded that they survey will be carried out in Hanoi, the Mekong Delta City of Can Tho and the central city of Da Nang.
