Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung on January 6 signed a decision to develop commerce in rural areas in the period 2010-2015 with an outlook to 2020.
Under the project, retail sales of goods and services in rural areas will rise by 22 percent each year in the period 2010-2015 and by 20 percent in the period 2016-2020.
The government targets to finish planning the development of commercial infrastructure in rural areas by 2011. It plans to finish construction of wholesale agricultural product markets by 2012.
By 2015, all central markets in the districts will be fully built, and half the markets in border areas will be upgraded, renovated, or newly built. The upgrades are expected to finish in 2020.
The amount of agricultural products sold through contracts will account for 25-30 percent by 2015, and 45-50 percent by 2020.
There will also be a rice exchange in Can Tho City, a coffee exchange in Daklak Province, and centers for agricultural product auctions by 2020.
