Germany helps Vietnam respond to climate change impacts

The International Cooperation Department of Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has signed an agreement on the preservation of forest and coastal biodiversity with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ).

The project of preservation and sustainable use of forest biodiversity and ecosystem services worth EUR 4.5 million will be implemented from 2015-2018.

GIZ will give technical consultancy to develop abilities of individuals, organizations in implementing the project.

Meanwhile the second phase of the Integrated Coastal Management Program (ICMP) which aims to protect the Mekong Delta coastal and mangrove forests will be carried out from 2015 to 2017 at a total cost of EUR8.8 million in the five regional provinces of An Giang, Bac Lieu, Ca Mau, Kien Giang and Soc Trang.

The second phase focuses on providing technical and financial assistance; forming a legal framework for developing measures to adapt to climate change in the Mekong Delta region.
