The documentary about an Orange Agent/Dioxin victim in Vietnam, “Long Thanh will lachen” is among eight nominations for the News and Current Affairs category of the 2016 Emmy Awards.
The announcement by the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences announced marked the Day for Vietnamese Agent Orange/Dioxin Victims on August 10.
The 28-minute long documentary film directed by Philipp Abresch was broadcast on ARD TV channel, a network of public broadcasting companies in Germany, last year.
The documentary is a story about people suffering from devastating effects of toxic herbicide sprayed by US Army 40 years ago. Generations of Vietnamese still suffer from Agent Orange, like 15-year-old Long Thanh in the film. The boy has energetically lived and overcome daily difficulties.
According to the documentary, about 3 million Vietnamese live with the effects of the herbicide, including 150,000 children with congenital malformations.
Vietnam has called upon the US Government to take responsibility for damages caused to the environment and health of Vietnamese people, but the US Government has rejected direct links between Agent Orange and birth defects.
The winners of the Emmy Awards will be announced in New York, the US on September 21.
