An exhibition featuring 146 artworks of oil paintings, silk paintings and sculptures on a variety of subjects by 118 artists opened at the Fine Arts Museum in Ho Chi Minh City on August 8.

The artworks were selected from 164 works of 131 artists at the Fine Arts Exhibition Region VI-Ho Chi Minh City 2012 exhibition last August.
This year’s submissions focused on culture and social issues such as the tradition of the heroic and glorious revolutionary; thoughts and moral example of President Ho Chi Minh; and patriotism and national sovereignty over islands and sea.
The exhibits include A-prize winning work titled Tinh Dat va Lua (Love of Soil and Fire) by Lam Thanh; B-prize winning sculpture and silk painting titled Mat (Eye) by Tran Viet Hung and Cho Noi (Floating Market) by Nguyen Dang Khoat; three C-prizes consisting of oil painting titled Su Huong Thien (Inclined towards Good) by Hua Thanh Binh; wood sculpture themed Nhung Chiec O (Umbrellas) by Nguyen Thi To Uyen; and oil painting titled Niem Vui Tu Dat (Joy from Soil) by Ho Minh Quan.
These prize winning artworks will be sent for the Vietnam Fine Art Award in Hanoi in September.
In related news, Le Hong Thai of Tien Giang Province won the A-Prize for the sculpture titled Hanh Phuc (Happiness) at the Fine Arts Exhibition-Mekong Delta Region 2012.
The B and C prizes went to Phan Thai Hoang of Ca Mau Province for artwork titled Bien Bac (Silver Sea) and Nguyen Dac Nguyen of Dong Thap Province for the artwork Lang Le (silence).
The Fine Arts Exhibition-Mekong Delta Region 2012 attracted 322 artworks of 296 artists from 13 cities and provinces in the region.
207 selected works are displaying at the Kien Giang Province Association of Literature and Art.
