Voters on the islands and areas on the sea began to cast their ballots on May 2, ahead of the general elections for the 13th National Assembly and Peoples’ Council for the 2011-2016 term.
Officers and soldiers working on marine off shore platform GK1/2 at Phuc Tan in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau were honored to be the first voters in the country, casting their ballots 20 days earlier than other localities.
Officers and soldiers on platforms at Huyen Tran and Que Duong grounds will be the second to cast their ballots on May 3.
As per schedule, the Early Election Mission for the sea areas will wind up by May 20 and then return to the mainland.
HQ 631 and HQ 531 ships left the port of Nha Trang city in the central coastal province of Khanh Hoa on the afternoon of May 2 to organize early polls on the islands of Truong Sa (Spartly).
As per regulations, voters in these areas are allowed to cast their ballots on May 15, seven days earlier than the general elections.
The two ships will not only organize elections for the island residents but also for nonresident fishermen who are out at sea or in nearby islands.
For the naval and sea police forces, marine platforms, oilrigs and fishermen working in the country’s southern sea regions, the polls have been organized earlier than the nationwide elections.
