Elected candidates asked to protect rights of residents

The Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee held conferences across some districts of Ho Chi Minh City on May 4, where 182 candidates spoke of their agenda and action plan if they win the election.

Deputies for the National Assembly, including Prof. Huynh Thanh Dat, permanent vice Director of the HCMC National University, Le Thanh Hai, HCMC Party Chief, Pham Thi Kim Hong, deputy head of the city Humanitarian Blood Donation Center, Nguyen Phuoc Loc, President of the Vietnam Youth Federation and Lam Thieu Quan attended the conference in district 5.

Voters said that NA candidates should listen to their expectations more frequently, as well as improve essential services for the youth, take part in curbing inflation and improve peoples living conditions.

NA candidates have promised to spend more time listening to city residents’ aspirations at a meeting in district 2. Nguyen Thi Quyet Tam, head of the department of propaganda and education of the party; Nguyen Thi Thu Cuc, headmistress of  Gia Dinh High School; Doan Nguyen Thuy Trang, deputy Editor-in-chief of Science Magazine; Huynh Ngoc Anh, deputy chief justice and Ngo Ha Thai, deputy general director of the Vietnam News Agency are all candidates. 
 
Around 3,832 deputies have been selected the provincial peoples’ Council in 63 cities and provinces. 21,131 will be from district levels and 281,491 will be from commune levels.

The conference passed an official list of 5,965 candidates for the Peoples’ Council at all levels.

Female candidates make up 34.4 percent or 2,052 persons, young candidates make up 20.3 percent or 1,211 persons, non-Party candidates make up 14.62 percent or 872 persons, ethnic minority candidates make up 19.21 percent or 1,146 persons and the number of self-nominated candidates are 25 or 0.41 percent.

As many as 91,438 polling stations are expected to be set up across the country.

Officers and soldiers on the marine platform GK1/2 in Phuc Tan on Que Duong A and Que Duong B off shore ground in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau cast their ballots on May 2. 

The electorate will go to platforms in Huyen Tran, Phuc Nguyen and Tu Chinh on May 8 to ensure that all officers and soldiers cast their ballots. They will finally come to a platform in the southern most tip of Vietnam of Ca Mau province.
