Development Program to benefit 2,333 impoverished communes

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has just approved coverage of 2,333 extremely impoverished communes that will benefit from the Socio Economic Development Program in Ethnic Minority Areas for the period 2014 to 2015.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has just approved coverage of 2,333 extremely impoverished communes that will benefit from the Socio Economic Development Program in Ethnic Minority Areas for the period 2014 to 2015.
 
Under the Socio Economic Development Program or so called ‘Program 135’, the Central Government will give financial support to 2,294 Communes in 44 Provinces and the local governments will provide assistance to 39 Communes in Hanoi, the northern provinces of Vinh Phuc, Quang Ninh, the central province of Khanh Hoa, and Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province in the Mekong Delta.
 
On the list of most impoverished and underdeveloped communes are 140 in Ha Giang Province, 137 in Cao Bang Province, 120 in Lao Cai Province, and 118 in Thanh Hoa Province.
 
Program 135 will strive to reduce poverty in households by 4 percent each year and help increase the average income per head in rural districts across the country. In addition, 85 percent of villages in Vietnam will have improved road infrastructure.
