Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, chairman of the National Traffic Safety Committee, sent a dispatch to related ministries asking for heavier preventative measures for traffic accidents on February 12.
This was a response to multiple fatal large-vehicle collisions in Ha Tinh, Thua Thien-Hue, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa and Binh Duong from February 10-12.
Most of the accidents occurred on the National Highway 1A due to reckless driving, speeding or not concentrating.
Mr. Phuc ordered the Ministry of Public Security and its units to mobilize all facilities and human resources to strictly handle drivers for violating traffic law. They will focus mainly on the National Highway 1A from Nghe An to Binh Thuan Province in the central region.
The Ministry of Transport will be tightening security on buses, ensuring maximum safety, remaining at or under capacity, and overcharging fares.
