CPI rises in August along with fuel prices

Data from the Ho Chi Minh Statistics Office showed that the consumer price index (CPI) rose 0.66 percent in August, the highest level since February this year.

This month, gold price index climbed 0.33 percent while the US dollar price index declined 0.18 percent.

The City’s CPI surged 2.14 percent compared to August last year, and soared 4.28 percent compared to December last year.

Meanwhile, Hanoi’s CPI edged up 0.57 percent compared to the previous month, after dropping continually for several months, increasing by 2.86 percent since beginning of this year, and a hike by 4.13 percent year-on-year.

CPI picked up this month as gasoline and gas prices escalated sharply, causing prices of other commodities and services, such as transport services, housing, and building materials, to go up.
