Concert for Vietnam Music Day on Sep 3

A special concert to mark the 2nd Vietnam Music Day at the Au Co Theater in Hanoi on September 3, said Do Hong Quan, Chairman of the Vietnam Composers’ Association.

The concert will be held in three parts comprising of an introduction by the Rhapsody Philharmonic, including 60 artists of the National Music Institute, a 40-member choir of the Hanoi music encouragement club and performances by the Vietnam Song and Dance Theater.

Many other free music shows celebrating Vietnam Music Day will also be held in the capital, such as performances by Thang Long Song and Dance Theater and the Music Art Development Center on September 3, and another show by the Military Art Troupe on September 4.

A concert will be held at the Au Co Theater on September 6 to honor soldiers who responded to the general mobilization call to join the army in Quang Tri, 40 years ago. The show will be broadcast live on HTV1 channel.

Many cities and provinces nationwide will also hold free music shows to mark Vietnam Music Day in Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Hue, Quang Ngai, Hai Phong, Phu Tho, Phu Yen, Vung Tau, Ha Tinh and Can Tho City from August 28 to September 3.

Vietnam Music Day is based on a famous cultural event that happened 50 years ago. On 3 September 1960, then President Ho Chi Minh conducted an orchestra to sing “The song of unity” at a gala night in Hanoi, commemorating the success of the third national Congress of the Vietnam Workers’ Party, now the Communist Party of Vietnam.
