City to support 86,000 workers unable to return home for Tet

The People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City and relevant departments, organizations have cooperated to support about 86,000 workers in the city, who cannot return to their hometowns during the Tet Lunar New Year.

According to Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee, Hua Ngoc Thuan, local authorities have asked the HCMC Labor Union, relevant departments, organizations to create conditions whereby workers can return to their hometown for Tet Lunar New Year.

The city government is also encouraging parks and tourist areas such as Suoi Tien and Dam Sen to offer a discount of VND15, 000-VND20, 000 per entry ticket for workers who will stay back in the city during nine days of Tet holidays.

The People’s Committee has asked cultural centers in 24 districts throughout the city to organize various music and art concerts, entertainment activities during Tet.

Many delegations including one of city leaders will visit workers at their guest houses. The city government will also encourage families of Party members to receive 4-5 workers so as to share Tet with them.

The City People’s Committee has asked the HCMC Labor Union to inspect payment of salaries and Tet bonuses for employees before the Lunar New Year. Any businesses that disregard this will be severely fined.

The HCMC Labor Union has cooperated with the Department of Transport to provide vehicles to transport employees to their hometowns.

Binh Tan District’s Labor Union has offered 559 Tet gifts worth VND200,000-VND500,000 each to workers who cannot celebrate Tet with their families.

A concert welcoming the Lunar New Year will be held at the district’s cultural center on January 15. On this occasion, the District’s Labor Union will give Tet gifts to disadvantaged workers and children with fatal diseases.

Go Vap District’s Labor Union will also hand over 100 gifts worth VND400,000 each to poor workers.
