City releases thousands of fish into canals

The People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City on May 29 organized a ceremony to release about 205,000 fish into the Nhieu Loc-Thi Nghe and Tau Hu-Ben Nghe Canals in response to ‘World Environment Day’ held every year on June 5.

Attending the ceremony were Le Hoang Quan and Hua Ngoc Thuan, chairman and deputy chairman of the City People’s Committee, in the presence of several citizens.

They released 105,000 fish into the Tau Hu-Ben Nghe Canal and 100,000 fish into the Nhieu Loc-Thi Nghe Canal. The fish species released comprised of carps, anabas and catfish.

At the ceremony, deputy chairman Thuan called on residents to be more aware of and feel more responsible towards protecting the environment.

He prompted relevant organs to step up propaganda to raise environment protection awareness among different classes of residents, calling on them not to discharge garbage and waste into canals and rivers and not to use destructive fishing methods.
