City Party committee congress opens

The 9th congress of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee officially opened Tuesday with the attendance of 449 delegates who are representative for over 154,000 Party members in the city.

The congress, taking place from October 5 to 8,will review the implementation of the previous congress’ resolutions and determine directions and missions for the city development in the term 2010-2015.
 
Measures to obtain the city’s targets in the next five years would also be discussed at the event.

According to the city Party committee, the city authorities and people has overcome plenty of difficulties and challenges to restrain inflation and economic downturn as well as to attain important achievements in the last term, 2005-2010.

Of the missions in the next five years, the city will focus on reducing traffic gridlock and street flooding, reducing environmental pollution and improving the human resource quality as well as strengthening administrative innovation and the economic structure transfer.

The congress will vote new executive board and representatives to attend the 6th national Party congress.

On the sideline of the congress, a delegation of the city top leaders and the congress' delegates, led by Le Thanh Hai, Politburo member and the city Party committee secretary, visited and burnt incense to commemorate heroes at the city Martyrs' Cemetery on Monday morning.
