At the meeting, Mr. Nhan appreciated the well developing relationship between the two nations in many fields covering exchange of all level delegations, investment, education, agriculture, defense and development aid for the last past especially after the two countries upgraded their relationship to strategic partnership in 2018.
Mr. Nhan believed that the relationship between Vietnam including HCMC and Australia will develop vigorously in the upcoming time. Vietnam-Australia cooperation not only benefits the two countries but also has strategic meaning to peace, stability and prosperity in Asia-Pacific.
Vietnam hopes that the two sides will soon build an action program to implement the strategic partnership relationship in the phase of 2020-2030, as well as an enhanced economic cooperation strategy with the goal to take the two sides in the top ten trade partners of each other and double two-way investment. Vietnam always create the best conditions for Australian firms to invest in fields such as hi-tech agriculture, infrastructure, higher education, vocational training, information technology and Industry 4.0. Especially, HCMC wants to become a strategic partner of Australia in the fields of education and innovation.
Leaving the capital city of Canberra for Melbourne city, Victoria on the same day, Mr. Nhan led the HCMC delegation to pay a courtesy visit to Linda Marion Dessau, Governor of Victoria and Daniel Andrews, Premier of Victoria.
At the working sessions with the Governor and the Premier of Victoria, Mr. Nhan acclaimed Victoria’s efforts to boost relations with HCMC through the working visit by the Governor of Victoria to HCMC in October 2019 as well as the idea of establishing the chamber of commerce and industry of Victoria in HCMC. Currently, HCMC Department of External Relations is arranging a meeting with Victoria and related agencies to promote the chamber establishment in December this year.
Mr. Nhan said that the city will facilitate the establishment and operation of the Victoria's chamber in HCMC and hoped that there will be HCMC chamber of commerce and industry in Victoria soon.
He believed that the two sides have lot of cooperation potentials in fields such as innovation, education, technology and commerce. The city Party Chief expected Victoria to participate in investment, technology transfer and consultancy and share experience in urban planning, public transport, environment improvement including air quality, green cover increase, state management, innovation and startup.
Human resource quality improvement
HCMC is also focusing on developing smart city and the innovation district in the eastern part of the city including a national and regional innovation startup center. This will be a germination and application place of Artificial Intelligence (AI), big data and IoT in fields covering finance, health, agriculture, industry, smart city and e-government in HCMC and the country.
In the coming time, HCMC needs lots of domestic and overseas human resources to work in research and application centers in the innovation district. Hence, he suggested RMIT to provide training in fields that the city is in need of, cooperate with research facilities in the innovation district, support HCMC to connect with the world's leading experts and share AI application experience in data analysis.
Welcoming the proposals by Mr. Nhan, RMIT affirmed that the university will promote coordination with relevant sides to implement these programs. Established in 1887, RMIT is one of the top 20 universities in Australia with many training fields. RMIT Vietnam was established in 1998 with branches in Hanoi, HCMC and Da Nang city.
On December 4, Mr Nhan and the HCMC delegation visited William Angliss Institute. Established in 1940, the institute is the specialist training provider for the foods, tourism, hospitality, events and hotel management industries, delivering a range of courses within Australia and internationally with around 24,000 students enrolling each year.
Being impressive by training methods with high practical application and quality at the institute, Mr. Nhan wanted to intensify cooperation through training program transfer and training link in fields which the institute is in a position of strength such as restaurant-hotel and tourism. Aside from that the institute can work with HCMC in estimating the professional level of vocational training institutions in fields of tourism, hotels and restaurants to improve training quality.
The city also hopes to receive the institute’s experience sharing in smart and sustainable tourist development.
In the evening on the same day, Mr. Nguyen Thien Nhan and the HCMC delegation met businesses in Melbourne.
