Many charitable activities celebrating the Vu Lan festival (Mother’s Day) have been held in pagodas and temples around Ho Chi Minh City.
Thousands of individuals and organizations have cooperated with management boards of pagodas to offer gifts and free vegetarian meals to the disabled homeless people in the city.
Pagodas and temples throughout the city in recent days has seen streams of visitors flocking there to light incense sticks and taking part in the many activities organized during Vu Lan Festival.
Xa Loi Pagoda often gives hundred thousands of books to Buddhists on the ritual.
The Viet Nam Quoc Tu Pagoda has received a large number of people to come and pray for peace and good health for their families and parents.
The ‘Vu Lan’ Buddhist festival held annually on the 15th day of the 7th lunar month is celebrated to show people’s gratitude to their mothers and ancestors. They come to pagodas wearing red roses if their parents are alive or white roses if their parents have passed away.
The event is also the time for pardoning wandering souls who are then released from hell.
