Central health watchdog teams to ensure food safety during Tet

The Interdisciplinary Central Steering Committee for Food Safety and Hygiene has entrusted the Ministry of Health to coordinate with the Ministries of Agriculture and Rural Development, and Industry and Trade, and other relevant ministries and departments to form nine inspection teams to ensure food safety in 18 provinces and cities across the country.

Accordingly, from December 15 to January 25, 2014, nine inspection teams will operate in Hanoi, Lang Son, Ho Chi Minh City, Tay Ninh, Dong Nai, Binh Duong, Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Nghe An, Quang Tri, Long An, An Giang, Lao Cai, Thanh Hoa, Khanh Hoa, Binh Thuan, Dak Lak and Lam Dong.

The committee also asked provincial and city People’s Committees to form local inspection teams to check on local food processing, import and catering facilities from January 1 to February 2, 2014 and to coordinate with the central interdisciplinary inspection teams.

The Central and provincial inspection teams will focus on big food processing facilities, big food importers, wholesale markets, supermarkets, and trade centers. While local inspection teams will check small and medium food processing facilities, catering services and street food vendors.
