Taking part in this contest, students have a chance to research, create, and experience the latest technologies in the self-propelling field. If winning, they will receive prizes with the total value of more than VND1.5 billion (approx. $64,250). The champion will obtain an over-1.1-billion-worth prize ($47,115), including a visit to the US or Japan to experience new technologies in a week, the cash of VND15 million ($642.3), and a doctorate scholarship for artificial intelligence worth VND700 million ($29,982) for the most excellent person.
With the aim to boost research on automatic technology in Vietnam in accordance with Industry 4.0, since 2016, FPT Group has continuously organized the Digital Race with the theme related to self-propelled cars so that Vietnamese students can learn new knowledge and practice developing software for this special kind of vehicle.
Participants in the contest can reduce the time of writing codes for vehicles since they inherit all the open-sourced codes from contestants of previous years.
According to Mr. Bui Quang Ngoc, General Director of FPT Group, the contest is a playground for the young in Vietnam to get in touch with the latest technologies in the world while creating a global environment to practice necessary soft skills in work, which help people become more confident in Industry 4.0.
Mr. Do Quoc Khanh, Head of the Education Department of VTV, hoped that the Digital Race would become an attractive intellectual playground for students nationwide, where they can freely put their creativity into action and fully develop themselves.
The organization board describes the ideal team as having 2 Information Technology students, 1 from the mechatronics department, and the last from electronics and telecommunications department. All members should have expertise on image processing, statistics, embedded programming, artificial intelligence, programming on Linux platform, C/C++ language.
All teams that can enter the final round will be trained and then interned with the minimum salary of VND5 million per month ($214) at the Technology Department of FPT Group in at least 3 months.
The Digital Race 2018-2019 will be held in three regions of Hanoi, the central city of Da Nang, and the southern city of Ho Chi Minh.

The qualifying round will take place from November 15 to December 15, 2018 to identify the 20 most excellent teams. The semi-final round will happen from March 1 to March 31, 2019 to select the 6 best teams. The final will be held from April 20 to May 25, 2019.
