Mekong Delta region’s apricot growers are worried as their yellow apricot trees have already begun to flower and change new leaves early before the Lunar New Year due to the previous prolonged unseasonable heavy downpours from tropical low pressure systems.
If the apricot continues early flowering, the supply source for Tet holiday will be not as profuse as annual year.
Dang Ngoc Dan, an apricot grower of Phu Hung Yellow Apricot Blossom Co-operative in Dong Phu commune of Chau Thanh district, Hau Giang province said that her family takes care of over 1,000 yellow apricot trees to provide for Tet; however nearly 300 trees flowered soon over a month. If it continues to rain, all her flowers will blossom before Tet.
This is also alarming condition for yellow apricot gardeners in Mekong Delta region.
