Agro-forestry, fishery exports top $12.18 bln in 5 months

The export of agro-forestry and fishery products grossed US$12.18 billion in the five months of this year, a rise of 4.9 percent compared to the same period last year, said the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development yesterday.

Exports of major agricultural produces contributed US$6.05 billion to the revenue of the country’s farm produce exports, an increase of 6.6 percent compared to same period last year while export of fishery reached US$2.43 billion, a leap of 1.1 percent compared to same period last year.

Forestry exports earned US$2.69 billion, a decrease of 1.8 percent compared to same period last year.

As per the Ministry’s report, exports of coffee, cashew nuts, rubber have not seen better, yet tea, wood and cassava saw decline and markets shrink.
