The Association of Vietnamese Folklorists honored 78 outstanding writing works of folk culture at an awarding ceremony on November 12 in Hanoi.
Among 78 writing works, the two works including the project “Dong Duong Monastery – The original style of Champa arts” of author Ngo Van Doanh and “Mo Muong oratorio arts” of author Associate Professor Kieu Trung Son were awarded the first prize.
According to Professor To Ngoc Thanh, who is Chairman of the Vietnam Folk Arts Association, the organizing board received 103 entries for the awards in 2016.
Generally, the quantity and quality of projects registered at this year’s awards were high and most of them have the depth and new discoveries, said Professor To Ngoc Thanh.
Regarding the field of folk music, there are some worthy works including the projects on Thanh Hoa province’s folk music written by Nguyen Lien and Hoang Minh Tuong, “Folk songs of Islamic Cham people in the southern provinces of Dong Nai and Tay Ninh” by musician Tran Viet Binh and ‘Nghe Tinh folk music’ by Dang Thanh Luu musician, received great praise from the organising board.
In addition to two first prizes, association gave two second ( in A category), eight second (in B category), 24 third (in A category), 20 third (in B category) and 18 consolation prizes.
