At least 14 workers have been reported dead and tens of others injured in a scaffold collapse on the construction site of Taiwanese invested Formosa steel complex project in Vung Ang Economic Zone, the north central province of Ha Tinh on March 26.
The injured workers have been transported to General Hospitals of Ky Anh District and Ha Tinh Province.
Soon after the accident occurred on March 25, the province’s leaders together with 1,000 soldiers and officials from military and police forces were present at the site to carry out rescue works.
Victims were trapped under hundreds of tons of steel and woods, which could not be removed by cranes to ensure their safety. Amid dark and rainy weather, rescuers used machines to cut the steel and woods into smaller sections and bring them out to reach the workers.
Deputy Head of the province Department of Health Nguyen Tuan said that they have mobilized all facilities and human resources from local hospitals, health clinics and medical colleges to give first aid to the victims.
The Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs have sent a delegation to the site to instruct rescue operations and inspect the reason of the accident.

The collapsed scaffold was built to make a 50m long and 20-30m wide concrete emplacement weighing thousands of tons. It will be take out to sea for a dyke construction. This item belongs to a project invested by Samsung C&T Company.
When the scaffold collapsed, about 58 people were working on the site. Ten of them fortunately escaped.
Rescue forces are expected to access the last victims by March 26.
The reportedly dead and injured victims were Vietnamese from the central region.
