VN-Index slightly restores for second day

Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index advanced the second day on August 16 as investors increased buying on speculation that rising trend would return to the market after a full-week decline.

The shares of 295 companies and five mutual funds listed on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange reclaimed 0.56 percent, or 2.16 points, to close at 386.48 points.

Among the index members, 135 climbed, 78 dropped while 87 stocks remained unchanged.

Trading on the city bourse improved by 16 percent in volume and 30 percent in value over the previous trading session as 17.93 million shares changed hands at a value of VND299 billion.

Saigon Thuong Tin Joint Stock Commercial Bank or Sacombank (STB), the fourth largest listed lender, was the most active share in volume with 974,630 shares changing hands.

Saigon Securities Inc. (SSI), the country’s largest brokerage, chased after with 793,940 shares.

Thuan Thao Corporation (GTT) tagged along with 666,690 shares traded.

Viky Plastic Joint Stock Company (VKP) and Basa Joint Stock Company (BAS) both jumped 5.56 percent to VND1,900.

Other winners included Dinh Vu Port Investment and Development Joint Stock Company (DVP), cosmetics producer SPM Joint Stock Company (SPM), and Thuan Thao Corporation (GTT). They all grew 5 percent to VND37,800, VND48,300, and VND6,300 respectively.

Thien Long Group Corporation (TLG) recovered 4.97 percent to close at VND19,000.

Binh Thuan Hamico Mineral Joint Stock Company (KSA) plunged 12.5 percent to VND11,900. The company will pay dividends by shares at a ratio of 20 percent to its current shareholders.

South Logistics Joint Stock Company (STG) retreated for three consecutive trading sessions, giving up 4.89 percent to close at VND17,500.

Vietnam Active Fund (VFMVFA) and Vien Dong Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company (DVD) both removed 4.88 percent to close at VND3,900.

Hanoi’s HNX-Index of the smaller bourse in the north slightly edged up 0.08 percent, or 0.05 points, to finish at 65.83 points. Trading volume slightly rose over the previous day as 16 million shares changed hands at a value of VND160.4 billion.

Meanwhile, the UPCoM-Index of unlisted shares rallied 0.68 percent, or 0.21 points, to close at 30.98 points. A total of 131,400 shares changed hands at a value of VND855 million.
