VN-Index rises most in June

The Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index jumped as the steepest pace in this month on June 21 as investors regained confidence after economic data showed that consumer price index in Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi cities continued to drop in June.

The gauge of 286 companies and five mutual funds listed on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange rocketed up 2.57 percent, or 11.11 points, to close at 442.74 points.

Among the index members, 191 advanced, 48 declined, while 52 remained unchanged.

Trading on the city bourse fell by 32 percent in volume and 22 percent in value over the previous trading session as 29.72 million shares changed hands at a value of nearly VND585 billion.

Saigon Securities Inc. (SSI), the country’s largest brokerage, led the list of most active shares by volume with 2.34 million shares changing hands.

Sacom Development & Investment Corporation (SAM) followed with 1.25 million shares traded.

PetroVietnam Transportation Corporation (PVT) came in third with 901,840 shares.

Big gainers on the city bourse included Ngo Han Joint Stock Company (NHW), Petroleum Equipment Assembly & Metal Structure Joint Stock Company (PXS), Development Investment Construction Joint Stock Corporation (DIG), and Vinaship Joint Stock Company (VNA). They all bounced the daily maximum allowed limit of 5 percent to VND10,500, VND10,500, VND18,900, and VND8,400 respectively.

The newly listed Bac Giang Exploitable Mineral Joint Stock Company (BGM) lost 5 percent to close at VND24,000.

Thien Long Group Corporation (TLG) sank for three consecutive days, contracting 4.82 percent to VND21,700.

Vietnam Golf Tourism Joint Stock Company (VNG) plunged 4.79 percent to VND15,900.

The Hanoi’s HNX-Index of the smaller in the north also strongly recovered, growing 2.28 percent, or 1.72 points, to 77.05 points. Trading on the northern market rose by 44 percent in volume and 41 percent in value over the previous trading session as 52.68 million shares worth VND587.87 billion changed hands.

Meanwhile, the UPCoM-Index of unlisted shares edged up 0.03 points, or 0.09 percent, to 32.52 points. A total of 220,100 shares changed hands at a value of VND1.97 billion as of 2 pm local time.
