VN-Index escalates for four days

The Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index rallied for four consecutive days on May 31 as some blue-chip stocks advanced although losers outnumbered gainers.

The measure of 284 companies and five mutual funds listed on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange leaped forward by 2.25 percent, or 9.27 points, to close at 421.37 points.

Of the benchmark, 89 stocks increased, 117 decreased, while 83 remained unchanged.

Trading on the city bourse fell by 16 percent in volume and 25 percent in value over the previous trading session as 22.75 million shares changed hands at a value of VND389 billion.

Saigon Securities Inc. (SSI), the country’s largest brokerage, won the spot of most active share by volume with 1.98 million shares changing hands.

HCMC-based Refrigeration Electrical Engineering Corporation (REE) came next with 1.05 million shares traded.

Saigon Thuong Tin Joint Stock Commercial Bank or Sacombank (STB) finished third with 963,620 shares.

Binh Duong Construction & Civil Engineering Joint Stock Company (BCE) and Information & Networking Technology Joint Stock Company (CMT) both jumped the daily maximum allowed limit of 5 percent to VND8,400.

Danang Rubber Joint Stock Company (DRC), South Logistics Joint Stock Company (STG), and Song Da Urban & Industrial Zone Investment & Development Joint Stock Company (SJS) all closed up 4.97 percent to VND19,900, VND16,900, and VND31,700 respectively.

PetroVietnam Fertilizer & Chemical Corporation (DPM) rebounded 4.95 percent to VND31,800.

CMC Corporation (CMG), Post & Telecommunications Investment and Construction Joint Stock Company (PTC), Savimex Corporation (SAV), and Vinacafé Bienhoa Joint Stock Company (VCF) all collapsed 5 percent to VND11,400, VND11,400, VND30,400, and VND66,500 respectively.

Royal International Corporation (RIC) tumbled 4.95 percent to VND9,600.

Binh Thuan Hamico Mineral Joint Stock Company (KSA) retreated for the second day, giving up 4.94 percent to VND15,400.

The Hanoi’s HNX-Index of the smaller in the north eroded 0.19 percent, or 0.13 points, to close at 69.48 points. Trading volume slightly improved over the previous trading session as 28.64 million shares worth VND299.2 billion changed hands.

Meanwhile, the UPCoM-Index of unlisted shares gained 0.37 points to 32.35 points this morning. A total of 98,500 shares changed hands at a value of VND1.36 billion as of 11:10 am local time.
