VN-Index edges up third day, led by blue-chip stocks

Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index rose for three consecutive trading sessions on May 11 as many large-cap stocks, including: MSN and VNM strongly rallied.

The shares of 284 companies and five mutual funds listed on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange enriched 0.39 percent, or 1.86 points, to close at 483.15 points.

On the southern trading floor, gainers were outnumbered by losers as 83 stocks gained, 138 lost, while 68 remained unchanged.

Trading on the city bourse improved by 20 percent in volume and 46 percent in value over the previous trading session as 21.6 million shares changed hands at a value of VND536 billion.

Sai Gon Thuong Tin Joint Stock Commercial Bank or Sacombank (STB) led the list of most active shares in volume with 1.17 million shares changing hands.

Thong Nhat Rubber Joint Stock Company (TNC) followed with 1.11 million shares traded.

Saigon Securities Inc. (SSI), the country’s largest brokerage, came next with 862,270 shares.

 House Vietnam Joint Stock Company (NVN), Thong Nhat Rubber Joint Stock Company (TNC) both jumped 5 percent to close at VND16,800 and VND14,700 respectively.

 Royal International Corporation (RIC) recovered 4.96 percent to close at VND12,700.

Foreign Trade Development & Investment Corporation (FDC) shot up 4.88 percent to close at VND25,800.

Thuan An Wood Processing Joint Stock Company (GTA) declined for three days in a row, plummeting 10.84 percent to VND7,400. The company will pay dividends for the year 2010 to its current shareholders in cash at a ratio of 9 percent since May 27.

Dinh Vu Port Investment and Development Joint Stock Company (DVP) retreated the second day, closing down 5.54 percent to close at VND37,500.

IDICO Infrastructure Development Investment Joint Stock Company (HTI) and South Vietnam Container Shipping Joint Stock Company (VSG) erased 5 percent to close at VND7,600 and VND3,800 respectively.

The Hanoi’s HNX-Index of the smaller in the north continued to slide, contracting 0.28 percent, or 0.23 points, to close at 82.71 points. Trading volume fell to the lowest level in the past two years as 18.6 million shares worth VND243.56 billion changed hands.

Meanwhile, the UPCoM-Index of unlisted shares slipped 0.12 points to 35.24 points this morning. A total of 81,330 shares changed hands at a value of VND1.31 billion.
