VN-Index drops as several stocks slump

Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index opened week on low note on June 25 after more than 230 stocks declined as investors sold off to cut losses.

Shares of 302 companies and five mutual funds listed on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange fell 0.71 percent, or 3.05 points, to close at 424.12 points.

Among the index members, 36 advanced, 233 retreated, while 38 stocks remained unchanged.

Trading on the city bourse improved by 21 per cent in volume, and 36 per cent in value over the previous trading session as more than 62.79 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND1.03 trillion.

Tan Tao Investment Industrial Joint Stock Company (ITA) was the most active share in volume with 2.34 million shares changing hands.

Sao Mai Construction Corporation (ASM) followed with 1.78 million shares.

Saigon Securities Inc. (SSI) tailed after with 1.56 million shares traded.

Vung Tau Construction & Real Estate Joint Stock Company (VRC), Dong Hai Joint Stock Company of Ben Tre (DHC), Son Ha International Corporation (SHI), Binh Thuan Mineral Industry Joint Stock Company (KSA), and Dream House Investment Corporation (DRH) were biggest losers on the city bourse today. They all nosedived 5 percent to close at VND7,600, VND7,600, VND5,700, VND13,300, and VND3,800 respectively.

Electronics Communications Technology Investment Development Corporation (ELC) shortened 4.98 percent to close at VND22,900.

Vegetable Oil Packing Joint Stock Company (VPK) discharged 4.96 percent to close at VND11,500.

Duyen Hai Multi Modal Transport Joint Stock Company (TCO) and Vingroup Joint Stock Company (VIC) salvaged 4.94 percent to close at VND8,500, and VND85,000 respectively.

Binh Chanh Construction Investment Shareholding Company (BCI) enriched 4.89 percent to close at VND23,600.

Saigon Beer Transportation Joint Stock Company (SBC) rebounded 4.84 percent to close at VND13,000.

The VN30 Index - a free-float adjusted, market cap-weighted index of 30 stocks with the highest market value and liquidity on the exchange – receded 2.25 points, or 0.45 percent, to end at 498.09. Among its 30 members, 2 stocks rallied, 23 waned, and 5 remained unmoved.

Hanoi’s HNX-Index of the smaller bourse in the north plummeted 2.06 percent, or 1.51 points, to close at 71.8 points with 41 winners, 202 losers, and 45 stocks treading water. Around 42.48 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND421.9 billion.

Meanwhile, the UPCoM-Index of unlisted shares recovered 0.58 percent, or 0.21 points, to close at 36.45 points. A total of 375,022 shares changed hands at VND2.43 billion.
